Office Furniture Liquidations Clears Hotel and Partners with VetStrong for Greater Good of Community
Liquidated furniture and donated mattresses save unnecessary waste from entering landfill

SAN ANTONIO — Serving the community came full circle as Office Furniture Liquidations (OFL) recently cleared out a downtown boutique hotel that is undergoing renovations and donated the mattresses to VetStrong, a local nonprofit that provides furniture to previously homeless Veterans.

OFL built a relationship with Ed Pape of Vaquero Group to liquidate the hotel furniture and stock its 45,692 square foot showroom for customers shopping for items for to furnish their offices, homes, and vacation rental properties.

“We were able to get in and clear the 40-room hotel in just three days, and turn the mattresses over to a local nonprofit,” said Erik Darmstetter, owner of OFL. “We are always looking for sources of high-quality, gently used furniture to liquidate for our customers, and when we can give back to our community through an organization like VetStrong, we all win.”

The 45 mattresses from the hotel were donated to VetStrong to fulfill its mission of supporting local Veterans in need.

“Donations like these from OFL help to further our cause and get Vets off the streets and in their own bed, figuratively and literally in this case,” said VetStrong founder, James Pobanz.

Rising material costs and skilled labor shortages have caused extreme production delays for in-demand consumer products. Used furniture through transactions like this allows people to get the products they need immediately. But it also saves the environment.

“Most people don’t realize that Americans throw out more than 12 million tons of furniture and furnishings each year, and this often comes when companies are remodeling or closing; that perfectly good furniture usually ends up in a landfill. This transaction alone resulted in more than 9,000 cubic feet of landfill space saved,” said Darmstetter.
